Google Photos is getting an overhauled photo editor UI soon

Google Photos will soon get an update that improves its photo editor UI, according to the slick reverse engineering prowess of Jane Manchun Wong.

The updated UI will be more text heavy, presumably to better direct people to features. At present, the editor is icon heavy and relies on trial and error if you aren’t used to its quirks.

Google recently updated Photos for Android and iOS with a new interface and renewed focus on its memories tab. It makes sense that it would now move to overhaul the editor.

Wong is an expert in finding new features like this before they come to the public build of the app, so her track record is pretty great.

The new version splits up tools into their own tabs and makes icons and buttons clearer and, hopefully, easier to navigate.

Google Photos is an awesome tool for backing up photos on Android and iPhone (so long as you don’t mind succumbing to Google’s AI scanning all your photos), but it is less well known for its photo editing prowess. Perhaps the company hopes these changes will help with that.
