Where to Pre-Order the iPhone 12 in the UK

The Black Friday sales season is coming! These deals are the best available right now, but the coming weeks may bring even better value across a wider range of products.

The iPhone 12 range is official, and it’s quite a change compared to the iPhone 11. Not only does the iPhone 12 range sport a new design reminiscent of the iPad Pro range, but there are new displays on offer, a faster processor, better camera performance and even the introduction of a small 5.4in iPhone 12 Mini to satisfy those who want a tiny 5G-enabled smartphone. The issue is that the release of the iPhone 12 range is staggered, making the pre-order process a little more complicated than usual.

But don’t fret, we at Tech Advisor have outlined everything you need to know about pre-ordering the iPhone 12 in the UK, including pre-order and release date information, pricing and some of the key upgrades on offer from this year’s iPhone range.

When will the iPhone 12 range be released?

The iPhone 12 range launch is a little more staggered than it has been in previous years.

The first iPhones to be available will be the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, both set to go up for pre-order today, Friday 16 October at 1pm, with release a week later on 23 October.

Those waiting for the smaller iPhone 12 Mini or ultra-high-end iPhone 12 Pro Max have to wait a little longer, with pre-orders opening on 6 November and shipping on 13 November.

How much will the iPhone 12 range cost in the UK?

There were conflicting rumours about the cost of the iPhone 12 range prior to its announcement, with some suggesting it’d be cheaper while others claimed it’d be more expensive thanks to the inclusion of 5G.

The good news is that Apple didn’t raise the price of the iPhone 12 range (aside from a slight tweak on the iPhone 12 in the UK) despite the jump forward in design, performance and connectivity – but they are still expensive, and that’s especially true of the ultra-high-end iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Here’s how the iPhone 12 range breaks down, in terms of cost:

iPhone 12 Mini (64GB): £699/$699

Where can I pre-order the iPhone 12 range in the UK?

Pre-orders of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are set to go live today, 16 October, at 1pm BST.

The main place to pre-order the iPhone 12 range is via Apple itself, but where else can you go? After all, with such a major redesign on offer, it’s likely that stock will sell out quickly.

You’ve got the option of picking up the iPhone 12 range on contract, opening up the possibility of pre-ordering from UK carriers like EE, Vodafone, O2, Three, Virgin, Tesco Mobile and Sky Mobile, all of which have confirmed they’ll be stocking the latest range.

In terms of retailers, Amazon has listings for the iPhone 12, along with the likes of Affordable Mobiles, E2 Save, Mobiles.co.uk, Mobile Phones Direct and Fonehouse.

It’s highly likely that the iPhone 12 range will also be available from key UK stockists like John Lewis, Currys PC World and Argos once the range is released – the companies do sell just about every other Apple product, after all.

What isn’t clear is whether they’ll be offering pre-orders of the range ahead of release – we’ll be keeping an eye on the retailers this afternoon to confirm.

What’s new with the iPhone 12 range?

The iPhone 12 range is so exciting because there are a lot of changes on offer. The most noticeable is the design, which steps away from curved edges to something altogether more angular and reminiscent of the iPad Pro and even the iPhone 5.

That new design also means Apple has expanded the size of the display of most of the range without impacting the overall footprint, with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro sporting a 6.1in display and the iPhone 12 Pro Max sporting a 6.7in display. There’s also the iPhone 12 Mini, with a 5.4in display in the same form factor as the original 4.7in iPhone SE.

Let’s not forget the A14 Bionic, which Apple is calling the fastest chipset in any smartphone right now, with boosts to CPU, GPU and Neural Engine performance and, of course, 5G connectivity is standard across the entire range.

You’ve also got new features specific to the iPhone 12 Pro range, including the ability to record and edit Dolby Vision content directly via the Camera and Photos apps. There are also features specific to the top-end iPhone 12 Pro Max, including a new DSLR-esque OIS system, a larger camera sensor for a huge boost to low-light photography and the inclusion of a LiDAR sensor for lightning-fast autofocus capabilities.

Believe it or not, we’re only scratching the surface of what’s new with the iPhone 12 range.
